The Aeroscraft is an innovative and revolutionary aircraft that can fly over 3,000 nautical miles, achieve true vertical takeoff and landing at maximum payload, hover over unprepared surfaces, and offload over-sized cargo directly to point of need. Developed by M/s Aero of California, USA, the viability of the Aeroscraft’s innovative technology was demonstrated in January 2013.

Control of static heaviness:
Aeroscraft controls the vehicle's buoyancy to be heavier-than-air during ground operations or lighter-than-air during flight, acting as a “flying submarine.” The control of static heaviness system internally ballasts the non-flammable helium into the aircraft’s helium pressure envelopes (HPEs).

The control of static heaviness is Aeros’ solution to a virtually ballast exchange-free flight. Through a pilot’s control, the vehicle itself can be configured to provide enough static heaviness to offload personnel and cargo, without the limitation of taking on external ballast to stay grounded.

Rigid structure:
Unlike other airships, the Aeroscraft has a rigid structural design. The Aeroscraft is the only rigid structure variable buoyancy air vehicle of its kind, and its rigid structure is made from ultra-light aluminum and carbon fiber materials.
This rigid structure provides an excellent range of hard points for mounting engines, canards, cockpit, propulsion systems, and other auxiliary systems both inside and outside of the hull mould line. The rigid structure frame consists of transverse bulkheads, which are connected to longitudinal members. It is reinforced with tensioned cables, which are high strength, low creep composite braided lays.
The rigid structure contains approximately 200 trusses, and the length of individual trusses varies from 18 to 55 feet. The total length of all interior trusses is approximately 5,600 feet. The average truss weight, per linear foot, is about 1.2 lbs/ft.

Ceiling suspension cargo deployment system:
The Aeroscraft can provide precise cargo deployment from hover and land without the need for infrastructure or ground personnel. It utilizes two unique innovations to accomplish this feat: the patent-pending COSH buoyancy management system, and the proprietary ceiling suspension cargo deployment (CSCD) system that automates, weight-balances, and permits terrestrial or marine cargo deployment, simply and easily. The Aeroscraft's rigid shell works in concert with the internal ballast control system, which provides its runway-independent vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) and hover capability, at max cargo payload, without the use of off-baord ballasting.

Aeroscraft will allow for faster cargo on-loading and off-loading, and precise on-loading and off-loading from hover position. Manpower for on-loading and off-loading payload from the Aeroscraft will require only the pilot. No ground crew is needed for cargo handling or any other aspect of the Aeroscraft’s flight, saving time and money as well as reducing fuel costs.
Aeroscraft is equipped with Vertical Take Off and Landing (VTOL) capability that can deliver cargo from point-of-origin to point-of-need directly. Furthermore, other hybrid airships are runway dependent at higher operating weights, but the Aeroscraft does not need a runway, even at full payload. Because of its innovative control-of-static-heaviness (COSH) technology, its computer-controlled virtually-automated directional thrust and station-keeping technology facilitates off and on-loading stores while in hover.
Due to the mammoth scale of the vehicles in the Aeroscraft fleet, the Aeroscraft is designed with unmatched cargo bay dimensions, making it a perfect vehicle for transporting large, oversized items that are normally difficult to transport. Items that are typically indivisible can now be shipped from point-of-origin to point-of-need, without the usual difficulties of traditional ground and air transportation.

Commercial application:
Aeroscraft could move big and heavy things, from where they’re made or modulated to where they’re needed for commerce or aid. Aeros’ newest air vehicle was developed to provide new ways of moving heavy and oversized cargo, from point-of-origin to point-of-need, even to areas with damaged infrastructure or those lacking it altogether.
The Aeroscraft fleet will be an empowering infrastructure development disrupter, a new system that will impact future logistics and commercial industries strategically. The Aeroscraft will also be a logistical solution to companies and governments around the globe for its ability to handle cargo without the need for runways, in weight, volume and distance the helicopter cannot, and at fuel economy neither fixed wing nor rotary aircraft can provide. The Aeroscraft won’t replace the airplane or helicopter, but there exists an opportunity space bigger than the Aeroscraft itself for a new solution, especially in our new age of fuel cost consideration and resource conservation

Military Application:
The same pains felt throughout the civilian world of cargo logistics are actually amplified within military corridors, as are the goals – to balance mission objective with speed alongside cost containment of mobility operations. The U.S. Department of Defense and U.S.A.F. desire enabling the movement of large payloads and brigade-sized units to virtually any point of need, quickly, and with route flexibility. Their objectives include increasing heavy cargo lift capability and effectiveness, reducing the footprint in theater, providing lower cost and ‘greener’ cargo carriage, establishing new disaster relief capabilities, and reducing our dependence on foreign airbases and ports, as well as the effectiveness of anti-access strategies employed by adversaries.
