Collins Aerospace has inaugurated a new Engineering Development and Test Centre (EDTC) in Bengaluru, investing approximately $25 million in the facility as part of its broader $200 million commitment in India, according to a report by The Hindu Business Line. The center is intended to enhance the company’s aerospace component testing and certification processes.
The facility will be used to test and qualify components such as thrust reverser actuators, cabin lighting, and evacuation slides. Collins Aerospace stated that the testing equipment can replicate extreme aircraft operating conditions, including high altitudes, temperature variations, vibrations, and electromagnetic interference, ensuring compliance with global aviation standards.
By conducting tests in India, the company aims to streamline product development, allowing for earlier design modifications while reducing time and costs associated with international testing and certification. The EDTC will support multiple business units within Collins Aerospace, with future plans to extend its capabilities to other RTX businesses.
Collins Aerospace manufactures a range of aviation systems in India, including seating, lighting, cargo systems, temperature sensors, and communication and navigation systems. The company has also outlined plans to expand its supplier partnerships in India, with a target of tripling sourcing from local vendors within the next three to four years.
