Two M 777 A-2 Ultra Light Howitzers Arrive In India

New Delhi: Two M 777 A-2 (Indian) Ultra Light Howitzers arrived today as a part of the Rs. 5000 Cr. deal signed with US for 145 such guns in November 2016. These two Howitzers are for preparation of firing tables. During this event, the guns will fire 155 mm indigenous ammunition.

As per the contract agreement firing tables are being prepared by the contracted agency i.e. US Government and BAE GCS Ltd with support of Indian Army. After firing tables are ready, three more guns will be received in the second stage in September 2018 for training. Thereafter, induction will commence from March 2019 onwards at the rate of five guns per month till complete consignment is received by mid 2021.

The M777 is an ultra light howitzer designed and manufactured by BAE Systems. It is a 155mm 39 calibre towed gun which, meets the requirement of rapid deployability and accurate artillery fire support.The M777 is the world's first 155mm Howitzer weighing less than 10000 lbs (4218 kg).
