Air India has announced the purchase of 34 trainer aircraft to support its upcoming Flying Training Organisation (FTO) in Amravati, Maharashtra. The order comprises 31 single-engine aircraft from Piper Aircraft in the United States and three twin-engine aircraft from Diamond Aircraft in Austria.
Deliveries are set to begin in 2025, with the FTO expected to commence operations in the second half of the same year, pending regulatory approvals. The facility aims to graduate 180 commercial pilots annually.
The new trainer aircraft feature glass cockpits, G1000 avionics systems, and Jet A1 engines, designed to provide advanced training for aspiring pilots.
The investment is part of Air India's broader strategy to strengthen pilot training capabilities as it scales operations in line with the growing demands of India's aviation market.
