Apollyon Dynamics Unveils Nightshade ADX-1, India's High-Speed Jet-Powered Combat UAV
Hyderabad-based defence start-up Apollyon Dynamics has unveiled the Nightshade ADX-1, a jet-powered combat unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) designed for high-speed strike missions in contested and heavily defended airspace. Earlier this year, the company successfully demonstrated the drone's ability to launch from a moving vehicle, highlighting its mobile deployment capability.
The Nightshade ADX-1 is capable of cruising at speeds of 600–700 km/h, making it one of the fastest tactical UAVs developed by an Indian start-up. With a maximum take-off weight of 70 kg, it can carry modular payloads, including precision-strike munitions, and is designed to operate deep inside hostile territory.
A key feature of the platform is its ability to function in GPS-denied environments. By combining an Inertial Navigation System (INS) with terrain-following technology, the UAV can continue navigating accurately even under GPS jamming or spoofing conditions while maintaining a low radar signature.
The drone is primarily designed for Suppression of Enemy Air Defences (SEAD) missions, using anti-radiation sensors to detect and neutralise hostile radar systems, creating safer corridors for friendly aircraft and strike assets. It also incorporates Automatic Identification System (AIS) capability, enabling it to identify and track maritime targets.
Founded by BITS Pilani Hyderabad students, Apollyon Dynamics has secured ₹4 crore in pre-seed funding to accelerate development and production. The company has also introduced a mobile drone laboratory to support rapid customisation and deployment of tactical drones for frontline operations.
The Nightshade ADX-1 reflects the growing maturity of India's indigenous defence start-up ecosystem, demonstrating advancements in autonomous navigation, electronic warfare resilience, and high-speed combat UAV technologies.On Date:
