Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) and Rafael Advanced Defense Systems Ltd. (Rafael) are set to sign a Technical Collaboration Agreement (TCA) to advance the local production of the Spike LR2, a fifth-generation anti-tank guided missile (ATGM), in India.
This agreement builds on a previously established Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and will facilitate the transfer of manufacturing capabilities and key technologies. The initiative is in line with the Government of India’s "Make in India" program and adheres to the Ministry of Defence’s Indigenous Content (IC) requirements.
Alongside the Spike LR2, BDL and Rafael are also working on the production of the Spike ER2 missile, aimed at bolstering the operational capabilities of the Indian Armed Forces’ helicopter fleets.
Yoav Tourgeman, CEO of Rafael Advanced Defense Systems, noted that the partnership enhances India’s defense manufacturing capabilities. A. Madhavarao, Chairman and Managing Director of BDL, described the agreement as a step toward expanding BDL’s missile production portfolio while strengthening India’s defense self-sufficiency.
Through this collaboration, BDL and Rafael aim to support India’s defense sector by delivering advanced, domestically manufactured missile systems tailored to national security needs.
