Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) has signed a contract with India’s Ministry of Defence for the supply and integration of Electronic Warfare (EW) Suites for Mi-17 V5 helicopters operated by the Indian Air Force. The deal, finalized on April 7, 2025, is valued at INR 23.85 billion (approximately USD 286 million).
The contract includes EW Suites, modification kits, installation services, and related equipment. It has been signed under the Buy (Indian-Indigenously Designed Developed and Manufactured) category, which emphasizes local sourcing and production.
As per BEL’s official statement, the EW Suites will be built with a high percentage of locally sourced components, involving suppliers across the Indian electronics and defence manufacturing sectors. This includes contributions from micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) for various sub-assemblies and parts.
BEL noted, “The majority of the sub-assemblies and components for the EW Suite will be sourced from Indian manufacturers, fostering growth in the domestic electronics and defense industries.”
The Mi-17 V5 helicopters play a central role in the Indian Air Force's transport operations and utility missions. The addition of EW capabilities is aimed at enhancing the survivability and mission effectiveness of the fleet in operational environments.
