Bharat Forge announced that it exported 100 artillery guns, including 18 Advanced Towed Artillery Guns (ATAGs), to several countries in 2024, with a portion of these deliveries made to European customers. The company stated that these exports occurred before it supplied the same guns to the Indian Army.
According to Bharat Forge chairman Baba Kalyani, the company is expanding its manufacturing capacity as part of its goal to significantly grow its presence in the global defence manufacturing sector. “Our goal is to become the largest artillery producer in the world, hopefully by 2030. To achieve this, we are setting up a significant manufacturing capacity,” he said during a recent press conference.
The company currently produces various types of artillery systems, including ultralight howitzers, and is working on systems capable of firing while in motion. Kalyani noted that demand for defence hardware has increased globally due to limited manufacturing capacity and equipment consumption in ongoing conflicts.
In 2024, exports contributed nearly 90 percent of Bharat Forge’s defence-related sales. The company plans for about 80 percent of its defence sales in 2025 to come from exports. Kalyani said the firm is positioning itself to supply to the US Army, the French Army, the British Army, and other military forces globally.
