Boeing and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd. (HPCL) have announced a partnership aimed at advancing India's sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) ecosystem. The collaboration will focus on scaling SAF production, supporting certification processes, and promoting policies for SAF development.
Under the agreement, Boeing and HPCL will work to implement sustainability standards and best practices across the SAF supply chain. The partnership also includes exploring training programs and knowledge-sharing initiatives.
HPCL is engaged in SAF commercialization and has developed a proprietary technology, Trijet, for converting used cooking oil into SAF through its HP Green R&D Centre.
Boeing has been involved in various SAF initiatives globally, collaborating with airlines, fuel companies, and research institutions to expand supply and reduce costs. According to industry estimates, SAF can reduce carbon emissions by up to 84% over its lifecycle, depending on the feedstock used.
This collaboration aligns with efforts to reduce aviation-related emissions and expand sustainable fuel options in India.
