GE Aerospace is expanding its manufacturing operations in India with an additional investment of over $30 million (approximately INR 240 crores), according to Executive Director Amol Nagar in an interview with ET Manufacturing. The investment is directed towards expanding its Pune-based Multi-Modal Facility (MMF), which produces commercial engine parts for the LEAP, GE90, GEnx, and 9X engines.
The Pune facility, established in 2015, is GE Aerospace’s first multi-modal facility in India, housing eight sub-factories producing components for aviation, renewable energy, power, transportation, and oil and gas sectors. The company has also developed a local supplier network, including partnerships with Tata Advanced Systems Limited and Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL). Thirteen Indian suppliers contribute to GE Aerospace’s global supply chain, producing components for manufacturing sites in the United States, Europe, and Asia.
In the defence sector, GE Aerospace has a long-standing partnership with HAL and has supplied over 65 engines for the Tejas Light Combat Aircraft. The company signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with HAL in 2023 to co-produce fighter jet engines for the Indian Air Force. More than 150 GE Aerospace engines are operational across India’s defence and marine sectors, including the F404, F414, T700, and LM2500 gas turbines used in frigates and aircraft carriers.
GE Aerospace has aligned its operations with India’s "Make in India" and "Atmanirbhar Bharat" initiatives, focusing on localization and technology integration. The company has emphasized the role of its Indian manufacturing operations in supplying critical aerospace components globally.
