Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) displayed the Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Mk1A at Aero India 2025, with four aircraft flying in 'finger four' formation, referred to as the Yodha formation. A second prototype of the Mk1A also performed an aerial display during the event.
The Mk1A variant features upgrades, including an enhanced sensor suite, a new Mission and Digital Flight Control System, and expanded weapons capabilities. The aircraft is equipped with net-centric capabilities and can carry Astra Beyond Visual Range (BVR) missiles, as well as precision-guided weapons.
The Indian Air Force (IAF) has placed an order for 83 Mk1A aircraft with HAL. The lead aircraft in the program are in the process of obtaining a Military Type Certificate before induction into service.
The Aero India 2025 demonstration highlighted the operational capabilities of the Mk1A as part of its ongoing development and integration into the IAF fleet.
