Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) and DCX Systems Limited have formed a joint venture, ELTX, to manufacture defence electronics in India. The collaboration aims to support the production of advanced systems such as airborne radars and ground-based technologies for the Indian defence sector.
The joint venture is intended to facilitate the local development and production of high-end electronic warfare and radar systems. Both companies have indicated that the partnership will focus on technology transfer and establishing a manufacturing base within India to support ongoing and future defence requirements.
IAI has expanded its operations in India over recent years. These include the creation of Aerospace Services, a partnership with the Indian Institute of Technology in Delhi, and an innovation program with Indian startups. A recently launched Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul facility in Hyderabad is intended to reduce service turnaround times for radar systems used by the Indian Armed Forces.
Dror Bar, CEO of ELTA Systems and EVP at IAI, said, “IAI/ELTA’s radars, airborne systems, homeland security and intelligence systems are at the forefront of the defense world for the last decades and serve India’s tri-services and Armed Forces. We are proud to significantly increase our commitment to support indigenization of our technologies in India and to establish this local JV, that will enhance the design and development of mutual defense electronics solutions.”
DCX Systems manufactures radio frequency and electronic systems for the defence and aerospace sectors at its Bangalore facility. The company will provide the local production capability for the joint venture.
Dr. H.S. Raghavendra Rao, Chairman and Managing Director of DCX Systems, said, “Through this JV, we will combine IAI’s innovative radar technologies with DCX’s local expertise and production infrastructure in order to deliver cutting-edge systems tailored to the growing needs of the Indian Armed Forces.”
