India’s Ministry of Civil Aviation has granted in-principle approval for the construction of Greenfield airports in Kota, Rajasthan, and Puri, Odisha. The announcement was made on May 5, 2025, by Civil Aviation Minister Rammohan Naidu Kinjarapu.
The proposed airport in Kota is expected to support the region's educational and industrial sectors, serving not only the city but also the surrounding Hadoti area. The project follows long-standing efforts by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, who represents the Kota-Bundi constituency.
The Puri airport aims to improve regional connectivity and facilitate easier access for visitors to the city, which is a major religious tourism destination. The facility is expected to enable direct connections to several metropolitan centers across India.
Details regarding investment figures, timelines, or construction capacity were not disclosed in the announcement.
Indigo Airlines, one of India’s largest domestic carriers, operates flights to more than 80 destinations within the country and abroad. The company continues to expand its presence through partnerships and route additions.
