VisakhapatnamThe Naval Science and Technological Laboratory (NSTL), Visakhapatnam, organised a two-day "Naval Stealth – Beyond 2030" workshop on 20–21 July 2026, bringing together experts from DRDO, the Indian Navy, defence shipyards, and industry to shape the future of indigenous naval stealth technologies.
The workshop was inaugurated by Dr. R. V. Hara Prasad, Director General (Naval Systems & Materials), in the presence of Rear Admiral Sujit Baxi, Director General of the Warship Design Bureau, highlighting the strategic importance of next-generation stealth capabilities for the Indian Navy.
A key milestone during the event was the transfer of technology for the LM2500 Gas Turbine Infrared Suppression System from NSTL to Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL). The system will support indigenous warship programmes by reducing infrared signatures and enhancing vessel survivability while strengthening the Make in India initiative.
More than 125 delegates from DRDO laboratories, the Indian Navy, defence shipyards, academia, and industry participated in technical sessions covering radar cross-section reduction, infrared signature management, acoustic stealth, electromagnetic emissions, magnetic signatures, and integrated multi-spectral stealth technologies.
The discussions also explored emerging materials, adaptive coatings, and advanced stealth concepts that could shape Indian naval platforms beyond 2030. The workshop reinforced the importance of collaborative research, indigenous innovation, and industry participation in developing future-ready stealth capabilities for the Indian Navy.Saturday, July 25, 2026
