IndiGo to Develop MRO Facility at Bengaluru Airport in Partnership with BIAL
IndiGo has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Bangalore International Airport Ltd. (BIAL) to establish a maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) facility at Kempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru. The agreement includes the allocation of approximately 31 acres of land by BIAL to IndiGo for the development of the facility.
The planned infrastructure will support both narrow-body and wide-body aircraft and is part of IndiGo’s expansion of its operational capabilities at the airport. IndiGo operates a fleet of over 400 aircraft and already has MRO facilities in Delhi and Bengaluru. The airline stated that a dedicated MRO facility will allow for greater aircraft availability, improved cost efficiency, and faster turnaround times.
“The development of broad IndiGo MRO capabilities marks a significant and very strategic step for IndiGo,” said Pieter Elbers, CEO of IndiGo. “We see this collaboration as a pivotal step towards building a significant global presence for IndiGo, as well as for India.”
The MoU also includes provisions for broader collaboration between IndiGo and BIAL in areas such as network expansion, infrastructure development, and joint marketing. The facility is expected to contribute to the aerospace and defence ecosystem in Karnataka.
Hari Marar, MD & CEO of BIAL, said, “We have had a very successful, long-term relationship with IndiGo and this collaboration further strengthens our association with the airline.”
IndiGo operates more than 2,200 daily flights and connects over 90 domestic and more than 40 international destinations. In FY25, the airline inducted 58 aircraft and served over 118 million passengers.
Bangalore International Airport handled 41.88 million passengers and 502,480 metric tonnes of cargo in FY 2024–25. Since its opening, the airport has served more than 350 million cumulative passengers and continues to be the highest-volume airport in India for processing perishable cargo.
