M Mohan, currently serving as Director (Projects) at the Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC), has been appointed as the Director of the Liquid Propulsion Systems Centre (LPSC), according to a press release issued by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO).
Mohan has held several key roles within ISRO during his career. From June 2023 to June 2024, he served as Director of the Human Space Flight Centre. Prior to that, he was Associate Director of VSSC (Research and Development), Deputy Director of VSSC (Materials and Manufacturing Entity and Aerospace Structures and Operations Entity), and Project Director of the Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle (GSLV) program. He also acted as Mission Director for two GSLV missions, GSLV-F08/GSAT-6A and GSLV-F11/GSAT-7A, both completed in 2018.
Mohan contributed to significant projects, including the Cryogenic Upper Stage (CUS) program and the Space Capsule Recovery Project (SRE-2). He also played a role as System Leader for the Moon Impact Probe under the Chandrayaan-1 mission, which placed the Indian national flag on the Moon's surface in 2008.
His work has been recognized with the ISRO Performance Excellence Award in 2016 and the ISRO Merit Award in 2010. Mohan is affiliated with various professional organizations, including the Aeronautical Society of India, the Society of Aerospace Manufacturing Engineers (where he is President), and the High Energy Materials Society of India.
Mohan hails from Alappuzha, Kerala, and his appointment marks another step in his long-standing association with ISRO's propulsion and space exploration programs.
