Olee Space, a photonics and defence technology startup based in Pune, has raised USD 3 million in a seed funding round led by Rockstud Capital with participation from other investors. The company said the funds will be used to scale production, strengthen its quantum-secure communication protocols, and expand its defence technology roadmap.
According to James Solomon, Founder and CEO of Olee Space, “The initial plan to deploy these funds is to allocate 80% to hardware and 20% to opex.”
Olee Space develops systems in Free-Space Optical Communication (FSOC), quantum-encrypted networking, and directed energy weapons. Its technology uses low-powered infrared laser beams to enable data links across land, air, sea, and space.
The company stated it is in discussions with the Indian armed forces and allied forces for pilot programmes. Co-Founder and COO Suman Hiremath said, “This funding validates our belief that India can lead in photonics and laser-based technologies. We’re building not just for today, but for the future of national security, space, and strategic infrastructure.”
Commenting on the investment, Abhishek Agarwal, Managing Partner of Rockstud Capital, said, “James has a vision to build a self-healing, ultra-high-bandwidth mesh network composed of agile LEO, powerful MEO, and GSO satellites equipped with cutting-edge optical payloads adhering to ESA’s ECSS standards.”
Founded in Pune, Olee Space focuses on photonics and defence technologies, including FSOC, quantum-encrypted communication, and laser-based systems. The company is developing applications for secure communication and defence infrastructure.
