SITA has completed the acquisition of CCM, an Italian company specializing in airport interior design and production. The move is intended to integrate technology with infrastructure planning, focusing on optimizing airport layouts for efficiency and passenger flow management.
According to SITA, the acquisition aligns with ongoing industry investments in automation, biometrics, and self-service technologies. A 2024 SITA report found that 63% of airports are prioritizing digital solutions, with IT spending reaching USD 8.9 billion. The company states that aligning technology with physical design is necessary to maximize the impact of these investments.
CCM has designed terminal spaces for over 300 airports globally. The company has been under the management of the Marinoni family for 35 years. Following the acquisition, Monica Oberti, a member of the Marinoni family, has been appointed interim CEO of CCM.
SITA President for Europe, Sergio Colella, stated that the market requires a shift toward integrating technology and design in airport operations. He added, "By combining our technology and experience in airport operations with [CCM’s] deep understanding of design and space optimization, we are bringing to the market a unique ‘technology by design’ capability and end-to-end integration from design to operations."
SITA CEO David Lavorel commented on the industry's transformation, emphasizing the need for space-efficient airport layouts. "With CCM’s deep design and execution expertise, we’re transforming airports to maximize their existing footprint, optimize passenger flow, and create smarter, more flexible and valuable airport terminal environments that evolve with the changing needs of the industry," he said.
SITA stated that the integration process is underway, with a focus on maintaining continuity for existing customers while expanding offerings for airport operators seeking combined technology and design solutions.
