The Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) has been directed to begin land acquisition for the proposed Purandar International Airport. The project aims to address the growing demand for air transport infrastructure in the Pune region.
A detailed project report (DPR) is scheduled for completion by September 2025, with the goal of making the airport operational by March 2029. The project has been advanced following discussions between Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation, Muralidhar Mohol.
Mohol highlighted the increasing air passenger traffic and the need for expanded infrastructure to accommodate future demand. The new airport is intended to complement the existing airport in Pune, which currently handles significant traffic.
The initiation of the land acquisition process marks a key milestone in the development of the Purandar International Airport, which aims to enhance regional connectivity and support economic growth. Further updates on the progress of the project, including the DPR, are expected later this year.
