Optiemus Unmanned Systems Private Limited (OUS), a subsidiary of Optiemus Infracom Limited, has entered into a partnership with Taiwan-based KunWay Technology to produce drones in India. The collaboration includes manufacturing and localizing KunWay's drone portfolio at OUS's facilities in Noida.
The agreement also allows the exploration of KunWay's broader product range for localization on a case-by-case basis. The announcement aligns with efforts to bolster India's drone manufacturing ecosystem, particularly in defense and homeland security.
KunWay Technology, headquartered at the Chiayi AI Drone Center in Taiwan, specializes in drone and artificial intelligence (AI) system development for global clients, including those in the United States and Japan.
David Chung Yi Liu, President and CEO of KunWay Technology, emphasized the potential of India's growing technology sector, stating the collaboration would also support the production and export of drones for other markets.
The Indian drone industry is projected to reach a market value of $23 billion by 2030, according to a recent EY-FICCI report. The government's initiatives aim to position India as a global hub for drone manufacturing, contributing to economic growth and technological innovation.
The partnership marks a step toward enhancing domestic manufacturing capabilities under the "Make in India" initiative, with a focus on addressing evolving market needs in defense and other sectors.
