Advanced night vision factory in Nimmaluru, Andhra Pradesh, dedicated to the nation
Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi dedicated the Advanced Night Vision factory in Nimmaluru, Krishna District, Andhra Pradesh, aimed at boosting indigenous defence production, exports, and skilled employment in Andhra Pradesh.
The inauguration is part of a broader initiative by the Government of India, with multiple defence and development projects worth approximately ₹13,430 crore being launched in Kurnool, a district rapidly emerging as a technological and defence hub. The Prime Minister emphasised that the facility will enhance India’s ability to produce night vision devices, missile sensors, and drone guard systems, while simultaneously boosting the country’s defence exports to global markets.
Reflecting on the success of India’s indigenous weapons systems during Operation Sindoor, he noted that the world has recognised the technological capabilities and strategic strength of India’s defence industry. Strategic Importance and Drone Industry Development Highlighting Kurnool’s emerging role as a national drone hub, the Prime Minister stated that the region’s drone ecosystem would catalyse the growth of several futuristic technology sectors. Drones have proven their effectiveness in recent defence operations, and with the establishment of this factory, Kurnool is poised to become a centre of excellence in aerial technology, surveillance systems, and defence electronics. The initiative is expected to generate substantial skilled employment opportunities over the next 2–3 years, supporting local talent and creating a skilled workforce in high-technology defence manufacturing.
About the Advanced Night Vision Factory The factory has been established by Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) at a total investment of around ₹360 crore. It is built across 50.54 acres with a built-up area of 36,000 square meters, designed to accommodate current and future defence manufacturing needs. The facility is equipped to produce: • Advanced Night Vision Devices (ANVDs) for the Armed Forces • Infrared seekers for various indigenously developed missiles • Drone guard systems to detect and neutralise rogue drones and other aerial threats Its flexible production lines ensure adaptability to emerging defence technologies and allow the incorporation of future product lines and advanced manufacturing techniques. Boosting Defence Exports and Indigenous Capability
By combining advanced production capabilities with strategic foresight, the Nimmaluru factory is expected to elevate India’s defence exports, positioning the country as a reliable global supplier of high-tech defence equipment. The facility will not only meet the domestic requirements of the Armed Forces but also help India carve a niche in the international defence market, furthering the goals of Aatmanirbharta in defence.
This step also aligns with the Government’s vision of promoting regional industrial growth, technological innovation, and skilled employment opportunities in Andhra Pradesh and across India. Looking Ahead The inauguration of the Nimmaluru Advanced Night Vision factory represents more than just a manufacturing facility — it marks a strategic shift in India’s defence landscape, integrating cutting-edge technology, domestic capability, and regional development. With the combination of BEL’s engineering excellence, the Government’s support, and the development of Kurnool as a drone and defence hub, India is well on its way to achieving self-reliance in critical defence technologies, while simultaneously fostering innovation, employment, and global competitiveness. The Advanced Night Vision factory in Nimmaluru is a symbol of India’s technological prowess, defence self-reliance, and industrial vision, paving the way for a future where India not only meets its defence requirements but also becomes a trusted exporter of advanced military systems.
