These vessels are designed for multi-domain naval operations including maritime surveillance, anti-piracy missions, search and rescue operations, protection of offshore assets and Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR). Named after Sanghmitra, daughter of Emperor Ashoka, the vessel represents another major milestone in India’s indigenous naval shipbuilding programme under the Aatmanirbhar Bharat and Make in India initiatives.
