The Indian Navy is set to significantly strengthen its future fleet with three major indigenous warship programmes—Project 15C destroyers, Project 17B stealth frigates, and Project 18A next-generation surface combatants—with a combined estimated investment of nearly ₹1 lakh crore.
Under Project 15C, the Navy plans to build four advanced guided-missile destroyers, while Project 17B will deliver six stealth frigates to be constructed by Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL) and Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers (GRSE). Project 18A envisions six large surface combatants equipped with advanced air defence, strike, and command-and-control capabilities.
The proposed projects represent one of India's largest investments in indigenous naval shipbuilding and are expected to play a key role in modernising the Indian Navy while reinforcing the country's long-term maritime security strategy.
