New Delhi
Hindustan Shipyard Limited (HSL) is transitioning into serial production of the indigenous JAYA Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV) following a Transfer of Technology (ToT) agreement with the CSIR-National Institute of Oceanography (CSIR-NIO). Formally executed during the 85th Foundation Day celebrations of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research in New Delhi, the agreement enables HSL to manufacture the autonomous platform at industrial scale, moving the system from research and development into operational deployment.
Developed by CSIR-NIO with design support from the Directorate of Naval Design (Submarine Design Group), the JAYA AUV is engineered for multi-mission underwater operations, including oceanographic research, seabed mapping, environmental monitoring, and subsea surveillance. The industrial-scale manufacturing agreement aligns with HSL's strategic evolution beyond traditional shipbuilding into high-technology marine domain awareness, autonomous surface vessels, subsea systems, and long-term lifecycle support.
