The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) and ThreeDis Integrated Solutions Ltd. (ThreeDis) have partnered with the Society for Applied Microwave Electronics Engineering and Research (SAMEER) to establish a Center of Excellence aimed at advancing airport navigation, communication, and security technologies in India.
This collaboration, facilitated through the MANTHAN platform launched in 2022 by the Office of the Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India, seeks to develop indigenous solutions tailored to the requirements of Indian airports. A Memorandum of Understanding formalizing the partnership was signed in New Delhi, with representatives from MeitY, SAMEER, the Airports Authority of India (AAI), and ThreeDis in attendance.
The initiative focuses on addressing key challenges in the Indian aviation sector through the design, development, and manufacturing of airport systems and equipment. SAMEER's expertise in microwave and radio frequency technologies will play a central role, leveraging its research to produce functional systems in collaboration with industry stakeholders like ThreeDis and AAI.
S. Krishnan, Secretary of MeitY, emphasized that the project aligns with the government’s objective of promoting indigenous technology development. SAMEER’s contributions will include research and development of systems for civilian and defense airport applications, alongside efforts to enhance certification processes for locally developed technologies to meet international standards.
ThreeDis Managing Director Nandy Bhatia stated that the partnership aims to execute projects of national importance, focusing on technologies that address navigation, communication, and security needs for Indian airports.
The MANTHAN platform, which facilitates collaborations between government, industry, and research entities, has played a key role in bringing these organizations together.
The Center of Excellence will be a step toward strengthening India's self-reliance in the aviation technology sector while fostering innovation in critical airport systems. The collaboration highlights the increasing role of industry-government partnerships in addressing the country’s strategic and technological requirements.
