Air India has placed an order for 85 Airbus jets, including 75 A320-family aircraft and 10 A350 long-haul jets, as part of a broader effort to revitalize its fleet. The deal is valued at approximately $6.3 billion after standard discounts, according to Cirium Ascend data. While the buyer has not been officially disclosed, industry sources attribute the order to Air India.
This acquisition follows the airline's earlier commitment to purchase nearly 500 aircraft from Airbus and Boeing. Air India is set to receive 250 jets from Airbus and 220 from Boeing as it seeks to modernize its operations.
Founded in 1932 by J.R.D. Tata, Air India has a long history in the aviation sector. Now under Tata’s leadership again, the airline is expanding its fleet as part of its ongoing efforts to compete in a challenging market.
The new order strengthens Air India's position as it prepares for future growth in the aviation industry.
