The Andhra Pradesh government has approved a pre-feasibility study for six proposed greenfield airports across the state. According to a government order issued on November 16, the proposed locations are Kuppam, Srikakulam, Nagarjuna Sagar, Tuni-Annavaram, Ongole, and Tadepalligudem.
The Andhra Pradesh Airports Development Corporation Limited (APADCL), in collaboration with the Airports Authority of India (AAI), has identified land parcels for the planned airports. The allocated areas include:
- Nagarjuna Sagar Airport: 1,671 acres in Palnadu district's Gurazala division
- Kuppam Airport: 1,502 acres in Chittoor district
- Srikakulam Airport: 1,384 acres in Srikakulam district's Palasa division
- Tadepalligudem Airport: 1,123 acres in West Godavari district
- Tuni-Annavaram Airport: 788 acres in Kakinada district's Peddapuram division
- Ongole Airport: 658 acres in Prakasam district
The government has allocated ₹1.92 crore for the pre-feasibility study, which will be conducted by a multi-disciplinary team from the AAI, supported by APADCL.
The decision follows discussions between Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Union Civil Aviation Minister K. Rammohan Naidu earlier this year, aimed at enhancing the state's aviation infrastructure.
Additionally, plans to develop water aerodromes in Prakasam and Srisailam have been proposed. These initiatives are expected to improve regional connectivity and potentially support tourism in the state.
The pre-feasibility study represents a step toward addressing regional aviation demands and exploring the potential for multi-modal logistics hubs in Andhra Pradesh.
