A test flight by IndiGo Airlines successfully landed at Jewar International Airport in Noida on Monday as part of a technical assessment ahead of the commencement of commercial operations, scheduled for April 2025.
The flight, departing from Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport, landed at Jewar Airport between 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. after remaining airborne for 1.5 to 2 hours, according to officials. No passengers were onboard the test flight, which included only crew members.
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation approved the trial after completing all necessary security checks. Officials confirmed that all security-related trials at the airport have now been completed.
Jewar Airport features a 3.9-kilometer runway designed in collaboration with Zurich Airport Authority of Switzerland. Upon landing, the aircraft was given a water salute, a ceremonial gesture often marking key milestones in aviation.
The successful completion of the test flight marks a significant step toward the airport’s readiness for commercial services, pending final approvals. This development is part of the broader preparations for what is planned to be a major aviation hub in the region.
