SpiceJet plans to restart discussions with Boeing to resume deliveries of its 737 MAX aircraft, as announced during the airline's annual general meeting. The company had placed an order for 200 B737 MAX planes in 2017, of which 13 have been delivered to date.
Currently, the airline operates 28 aircraft out of its 60 owned and leased fleet, which includes 30 Boeing 737 aircraft, 24 Q400s, and six wet-leased planes. The carrier intends to increase its fleet size to 100 aircraft by the end of 2026, positioning itself for growth in a market dominated by competitors IndiGo and Air India.
To support its expansion efforts, SpiceJet entered into an agreement with U.S.-based StandardAero to restore its grounded Boeing 737 MAX fleet. The first three planes under this initiative are expected to return to service by April 2025.
Earlier this year, SpiceJet raised ₹3,000 crore through a qualified institutional placement to finance its operations and fleet expansion. The airline’s plans to bring grounded aircraft back into service and resume deliveries from Boeing mark a significant step toward achieving its long-term growth objectives.
