Aerolloy Technologies, a subsidiary of PTC Industries, has commissioned a Vacuum Arc Remelting (VAR) furnace for aerospace-grade titanium alloy production in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. The facility, built in Germany, has an annual melting capacity of 1,500 metric tons and can produce titanium alloy ingots up to 1,000 millimeters in diameter.
The VAR furnace operates under vacuum conditions to enhance metallurgical quality, ensuring the uniform alloy composition required for aerospace applications such as jet engines and airframes. This development positions India among a select group of nations capable of producing aerospace-grade titanium alloys, which are critical for high-performance and lightweight structural components in the aerospace industry.
PTC Industries is also constructing a new aerospace manufacturing facility within the Uttar Pradesh Defence Industrial Corridor. The upcoming facility will include an integrated titanium and superalloy mill to produce ingots, billets, bars, plates, and sheets tailored for aerospace needs.
Jim Collins, Chief Technology Officer of PTC Industries, stated that the facility meets global standards for aerospace-grade titanium production. The initiative is expected to bolster India's domestic aerospace manufacturing capabilities, reducing dependency on imports for critical materials.
