Air India has announced plans to develop a 12-bay maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) facility in Bengaluru as part of its ongoing expansion under the Vihaan.AI transformation initiative. The airline also plans to establish a flight training academy in Amravati with a capacity of 34 aircraft and a training institute in Gurugram.
The company outlined its intention to expand its fleet by over 100 aircraft, in addition to the 470 aircraft ordered in 2023. These developments are part of a five-year plan to modernize Air India’s fleet and infrastructure to meet growing aviation demands and enhance operational capabilities for domestic and international services.
January 2025 marks three years since Air India joined the Tata Group. During this time, the airline has pursued strategic initiatives to support fleet growth, improve training facilities, and strengthen infrastructure.
According to CEO Campbell Wilson, the company’s current efforts aim to meet long-term industry needs while positioning Air India to handle increasing passenger traffic effectively.
