Saab will showcase its defense solutions at Aero India 2025 in Bengaluru from February 10 to 14. The company will display a full-scale model of the Gripen E fighter jet along with a cockpit simulator. Other exhibited systems will include the Carl-Gustaf M4, AT4CS AST, Next-Generation Light Anti-Tank Weapon (NLAW), Ground Combat Indoor Gunnery Trainer, AUV62-MR autonomous underwater vehicle, Integrated Defence Aids Suite (IDAS), and Land Electronic Defence System (LEDS).
The Carl-Gustaf M4, to be produced in India at Saab’s facility in Jhajjar, Haryana, is a man-portable multi-role weapon system in use by the Indian Army since 1976. The facility will manufacture units for the Indian Armed Forces and supply components for global customers. Saab is also working with Indian firms to expand local sourcing in line with domestic defense production policies.
Saab’s Gripen E is being considered for the Indian Air Force’s (IAF) Multi-Role Fighter Aircraft (MRFA) program. Kent-Åke Molin, Head of the Gripen India campaign, highlighted that the aircraft includes advanced sensors, countermeasure systems, and human-machine collaboration features. Saab has proposed an industrial plan involving local production of components, engine assembly, and the creation of a Gripen Design Centre in Bengaluru for avionics and software development.
The company’s technology transfer proposal includes Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) capabilities and potential collaboration on India’s Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) and Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) programs. Saab has also expressed interest in establishing India as an export hub for Gripen E aircraft and related systems.
